Mali
Education and training project
The project has two components: facilitate the establishment of primary schools and the implementation of a program for junior youth. The project as a whole aims to develop the capacity of individuals and institutions to create and manage their own school. The approach of the project helps them to take ownership of their school and take responsibility right from the start by participating in the construction of the school and the financial support of the teachers. The community, the school committees and the teachers are responsible for the operation of their schools.
Community schools established since 2001 now offer the complete primary cycle and are becoming more independent, because their institutional capacity is better developed. Regional and local government structures such as the “Center d’Animation Pédagogique” (CAP) support these schools through training, visits and provision of textbooks. This is one reason why Victory has decided to focus more on the teacher trainings for the schools and gradually reduce their institutional support, which is now under the responsibility of the school committees, the pronicpals, with the supervision of the CAP.
Between 2002 and 2008, out of a population of more than 5,500 people in 13 villages, about 2,164 children between 7 and 14 years have been gradually educated and received basic education from the first to the sixth grade.
