35 years in Luxembourg

Unity Foundation Celebrates 35 Years

2026 marks the 35th anniversary of Unity Foundation, celebrating over three decades guided by the conviction that every human being has inherent potential that can be revealed through education and training.

Education is a right, and its effects are transformative. For 35 years, Unity Foundation has put this into action by partnering with local organizations that offer programs which enable people to acquire knowledge and skills to improve their own lives and contribute to the betterment of their communities.

At the heart of Unity Foundation’s work is a commitment to sustainable change that is rooted in local realities. It has built long-term partnerships with local organisations that have entrusted it with the financial support of their projects, ensuring that the protagonists of development are those who know their communities best. It supports locally led initiatives across three lines of action: 1) Community Schools, providing quality education to children from the preschool level up in rural and peri-urban areas, 2) the Preparation for Social Action Program, building the capacity of young people and adults to take action in areas such as health, agriculture and environmental conservation and 3) Training Centers, designed to accompany organizations promoting community schools in a dozen African countries.

Since its creation in 1991, Unity Foundation has partnered up with local organizations to offer education and training programs in 17 countries, reaching thousands of people. During these 35 years, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has continuously co-financed its projects. The programs Unity Foundation currently supports assist young people and adults to establish community schools, engage in agricultural activities, and serve their communities in ways that reflect their talents and aspirations.

Its message is simple: “Unity starts with U!”

At 35, we’ve reached a remarkable milestone and gained the experience that comes with it. At the same time, we still carry the energy of a start-up for the years ahead – bringing together the best of both.

Fernand Schaber, President of Unity Foundation

Looking ahead, Unity Foundation remains committed to expanding access to education and training, helping more people realise their potential, and supporting communities in defining the path of their own development.
