Schwebach’s children’s class mobilized in support of other children
15/03/2019As part of our awareness-raising activities in Luxembourg, we launched in 2016 the “Mercy’s Blessing campaign”, with the aim of creating spaces where youngsters could get together and reflect about their potential, their opportunities, and their role to effect positive change in their own environments. This year we are overjoyed to announce that the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg will continue to support our efforts in the framework of this campaign.
Based on the award-winning short film “Mercy’s Blessing” by director May Taherzadeh, we have been offering workshops to schools, organizations working with youth and any interested communities that seek to empower young people to become protagonists of positive change. By exploring principles such as justice, compassion, mutual assistance and equal opportunity, which are at the heart of any development initiative, the workshops aim at helping young people to analyse their own environment and reflect on the application of these principles in their own lives.

Workshops with students at Sainte-Anne school in Ettelbruck: The film stimulates youth to think about the choices they make in life and to channel their energies towards social action.
Since 2016, more than 600 young people have participated in our interactive workshops and we
are happy to share how last year’s campaign was marked by the highest number of workshops since its launch: 294 young people participated in a total of 14 workshops. Most workshops took place in high schools, however, we also had the opportunity to host a workshop in collaboration with a group of scouts and another one in an informal setting with a group of junior youth (11-15) neighbors all from the same locality

Our experience from previous years suggests that youth aged 11 to 15 are particularly receptive to the values mentioned in the workshop. Thus, in our 2019 campaign, we decided to put a special emphasis on this age range. In addition, we are collaborating more closely with teachers and educators, in order to support their efforts as they accompany the youth in initiating small service projects that reflect the ideas they expressed during the workshops.
