12/04/2021Celebrating International Women's Day
Celebrated on March 8th, International Women’s Day is a day that marks the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and calls to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action; values which Unity Foundation and our partners strongly support, and which are rooted in the belief that achieving equality between women and men is key to alleviating poverty and achieving sustained community transformation, and a prerequisite for prosperity.
“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.” Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist.
Our vision of equality
All our partners are committed to giving women the same opportunities as men, implementing the necessary conditions that enable them to have full access to education and training and be encouraged to participate.
Indeed, all the activities supported by Unity Foundation are based on a methodology that combines study and community service, a methodology that encourages women and men to work together and learn how to trace the path of their communities’ development.
As a consequence of our partners’ efforts, more than 50% of students in community schools are girls. How is this achieved? Mainly through raising awareness among parents about the importance of educating their daughters, who might in turn be the primary caregivers.

Conscient of the challenge of many older girls to take care of their younger siblings while their parents are working, our partners accommodate for these girls to attend classes with their younger siblings. In other projects, the local partners organize special daycare for the children of mothers who want to follow the teacher training. As a result, the percentage of female teachers in community schools is way above the national average.
Join the campaign
Once again this year, we would like to invite you to celebrate International Women’s Day with us, supporting the efforts of those women and men, working with our partner organisations, who are constantly developing their communities through their harmonious cooperation. The campaign will take place on Facebook and Instagram over two weeks, through which we will share statistics on the place of women in the various activities of our partners, as well as stories they have shared, offering insight into how their educational programs enable women to become agents of social change in their communities.
