16/05/2023Project week at Lycée Aline Mayrisch: slams of the young trainees
Liam and Elisa, two students from the Lycée Aline Mayrisch in the 4th grade, were interns at Unity Foundation during the project week and served as facilitators. A few hours before the artistic presentation evening organised for the students, teachers, parents and associations, they managed to write two interwoven slams. Written as a dialogue, Liam and Elisa share their experience as facilitators and the vision of youth that this week inspired in them. Bravo and thank you for this intimate and poetic sharing!

Following the speech given by the president of Unity Foundation…
Liam: Thank you Fernand, your speech is fascinating, really. Hi Elisa, how are you? I have several questions about you. How did you find this mission and this status?
Elisa: I am fine, thanks for the question. I think it was a great experience.
At the beginning they were shy, it was complicated for them to talk and share their thoughts and ideas, which are nonetheless so interesting and fascinating.
They didn’t dare to lead a discussion, but it got better as time went by.
Opinions are expressed openly with a lot of respect, the most important thing.
It makes me really happy to see the evolution and progress from the first day to now, and there is still one day to go!
I’m excited and curious to see how it all turns out. I’m sure this next day will be at least as good.
This class has proven to me the opposite of the stereotypes of youth.
The power of youth is great, the strengths of a young person present.
For example, on Wednesday afternoon, the field trips for our group were a very good experience.
Meeting the “classe d’accueil”, getting to know them, learning from them and playing games with them brought a smile to everyone’s face.
And like good friends, they practiced empathy well.
Throughout the week I enjoyed seeing the diversity of personalities, the commitment and initiative present, the qualities and talents of the young people well hidden within them and yet very much present.
What about you?
Liam: It was hard to find my place, I was constantly afraid of being out of subject.
I liked this class, all the students are classy.
I understood the difficulty of having responsibilities.
As a facilitator my role is to help.
There were times when I needed to be sedated.
I realise the injustices that are present and the privileges that I have.
Let justice prevail and let hate disappear!
Many feelings inside me: fear, excitement, pride, stress, sadness, but overall only joy.
I expected the worst, I got the best.
I expected darkness, I got light.
With them, only joy and happiness, especially not laziness,
I expected dark, but illuminated by light, like the sky is clear in summer.
All happy we are.
All equal.
This idea that constantly resounds in my head.
We are more powerful than ever mentally.
A very special and empathetic week.
This text written since yesterday for this fantastic evening.
Are you enjoying the show so far?
Are you as proud of your children as we are?
Have they ever been so radiant?
I don’t think so.
The sun can’t compete,
Your pride, we robbed it.
Look at the power of the youth.
Admire these young people.
None of them can be alone.
I see burning fire in every eye.
They are themselves
And believe me, I love them all.
A glimmer of hope in them all.
With their beautiful soft energy.
A smile lighting up the whole room.
It’s still amazing all this tenderness.
I see strengths, I see qualities in excess.
Their personalities are getting stronger and continuously evolving.
They are all so different, but similar at the same time.
This test is liberating, but beautiful at the same time.
Truths I deliver, in happiness we drift…
