On Thursday, 4th May, Unity Foundation collaborated with the “Atert Lycée” in Redange as part of the Mercy’s Blessing sensitization campaign.
In collaboration with Michèle Heusbourg, an English teacher at the school, we organized two workshops with a total of four classes (around 60 students) lasting the whole morning. The format of the workshops consisted of a short introduction to the subject matter of the campaign, some background on the education situation around the world, then the screening of the movie Mercy’s Blessing. After the screening, a lively discussion was held with the students with the help of some prepared questions they discussed in groups.
We discussed the issues of choosing between a boy and a girl’s education, education in a very different environment such as Malawi and the main subjects and characters of the movie. The discussion we had with the students prove that young people think a lot about their education and the education of others in different parts of the world. They realize that education gives them the tools to develop their capacities and be agents of positive change.
We had a great time discussing education and development with all of the students and letting them know how they can get involved with NGOs and volunteer in Luxembourg.
Our next workshop will take place on the 9th of June at the International School of Luxembourg.
