On December 7, we were honored to bring together a passionate community at Ciné Utopia for an unforgettable evening. The event, which captivated hearts and minds, was an opportunity to celebrate art, education and the commitment to equality between women and men. Here’s a look back at an evening rich in emotion.
The Red Suitcase
The evening began with a screening of “The Red Suitcase”, a poignant piece of cinema that was not only nominated for an Oscar in 2023, but also won 33 prestigious awards. Following the screening, the film’s director, Cyrus Neshvad, in dialogue with Rebecca Pecnik, spokesperson for Luxembourg airport, where the film was shot, were invited to share their experience and interpretation of the film. In particular, Cyrus took the audience behind the scenes of the film’s creation, revealing the symbolism deeply embedded in each scene. Attendees were given a unique opportunity to understand the film’s artistic process and explore the complex themes addressed in “The Red Suitcase”.
Some highlights from our collaboration with high schools in Luxembourg
The evening continued with a short presentation on the educational projects carried out in Luxembourg, featuring contributions from students and staff from the partner schools. Moving testimonials from young members of the “Actors of change” network gave an insight into the impact of the workshops and the network on their lives. The three teachers and educators who are using our workshops in their respective schools shared their experiences, highlighting the positive impact of the awareness and education programs we run together.
As Sarah Hargarten, French teacher at Lycée Technique Lallange, explained: “Socio-emotional skills are often forgotten in secondary school, and these workshops aim to develop them in young people… I’m not going to tell you that you’ll be able to reach all young people in this way, but if you can have that impact there on a few individuals, it’s a success.”
Jorge dos Santos, from Gaston Thorn International School, spoke about the 2-hour workshops conducted by Unity Foundation in the 18 high school classes at the beginning of the year on positive leadership ahead of the delegate elections. “I saw, and we felt that Unity Foundation really aims to empower children to be actors in their reality, and that’s a goal we share. The bottom line is that we have the best student committee I can imagine. We chose Unity Foundation for its energy and sincere interest in human evolution.” Finally, Fabien Moussay, coordinator of the “Changemakers” courses at the International School, emphasized Unity Foundation’s ability to teach empathy, particularly through the use of personal stories, encouraging young people to project themselves into these narratives.
International partners: highlights of efforts dedicated to the advancement of women
Evening participants also had the opportunity to view an inspiring video that highlighted the work of Unity Foundation’s international partners in promoting gender equality and the advancement of women:
Launch of “Social Water – Drink, Educate, Unite”, a unique project by lux-Airport, Thalus Water in a Box and Unity Foundation
Finally, the evening ended with the official launch of the “Drink, Educate, Unite” campaign, in collaboration with LuxAirport and Thalus.
The evening of December 7 at the Utopia cinema was a collective celebration of our values and commitment. The evening will remain etched in our memories as a moment of sharing, inspiration and unity, reinforcing our determination to pursue our mission for a more just and equitable world.
