Unity Foundation cordially invites you to its event “Youth – Protagonists of social change” which will be held on 15th November at 7.00 pm at the Abbaye de Neumünster. The program will include the screening of the short film Mercy’s Blessing, sharing experiences related to the use of the film in Luxembourg and an intervention by the director May Taherzadeh. At the end of the event, Unity Foundation invites you to continue the conversations around a toast.
By way of introduction, May Taherzadeh is an independent filmmaker who has directed short films in more than 15 countries and on 6 continents which has won several awards. She was born in the United Kingdom, grew up in Southern Africa (Malawi, Swaziland, South Africa, Zimbabwe), is of Iranian origin and currently lives in the Netherlands with her family. Her short film ‘Mercy’s Blessing’ has won 12 international awards and was officially selected at 21 film festivals.
In addition to the awards it has won, the importance of this film and one of its main purposes is that it is used in schools, universities, community centres and workplaces in more than 100 countries around the world to raise awareness about gender equality, education and inspire audiences to take action. It is supported by international organizations, such as UNICEF and the European Union, which have also used it for campaigns and events to advance discourses on gender equality and education.
Since 2016, Unity Foundation has been using this short film to initiate workshops as part of its development education campaign. This campaign is co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. Through the implementation of interactive workshops, the objective of the campaign is to raise awareness among young people about the role they can play in combating the injustices encountered in their own environment and committing themselves to the well-being of others.
