Given the interest shown by youths in supporting Unity Foundation’s activities, a network of youths called “Actors for Change” was established a few months ago in order to assist them in developing their capacities to volunteer and train them to become workshop multipliers. Over the last few months, this network has been pursuing its meetings and activities with determination. From September 2023 to January 2024, a number of key events have marked our progress.
In September, we kicked off the school year with a gala, at which new faces joined our group, themselves invited by our existing members. Our “veteran” volunteers also brilliantly orchestrated games and prepared presentations on the network and current projects. A time of reflection focused on the characteristics of young people, the search for coherence between the various aspects of their lives, and their potential to serve as an example for younger generations. Finally, the group discussed concrete projects to be carried out during the year, in an atmosphere of conviviality and joy!
1. Game led by Liam from Lycée Aline Mayrisch; 2. time for reflection and discussion; 3. presentation of the Unity Foundation and sharing of objectives and concrete projects for the year.
In October, one of our volunteers was able to run a workshop for a group of young people during a holiday camp in Echternach on the theme “Who do we want to be influenced by?”. It was an opportunity to practice his leadership skills and meet other young people committed to improving their neighbourhood!
On 7 December, during Unity Foundation’s annual event, our youths shared their experiences of volunteering through poems that touched the audience.
1. Liam leads a workshop at a holiday camp in Echternach on the role of positive leaders; 2. youths share their experiences of volunteering at UF through poems, alongside three teachers who have also shared their experiences; 3. some volunteers accompanied by two teachers working with UF.
Since January, the joyful momentum of our network has continued. For the first time, two volunteers facilitated the training course of workshop multipliers for two new recruits! In addition, several pairs are enthusiastically preparing to run workshops in their schools.
We are also delighted to have created a branch of the Actors of Change network at the Gaston Thorn International School. This new group of young high school students is beaming with enthusiasm as they brainstorm projects to improve the school and stimulate change within their educational community.
1. Meeting with Jessica and Carlotta from Lycée Aline Mayrisch to prepare a workshop; 2. Presentation games, suggestion box and projects envisaged by the young people in the Actors of Change network.
We’re proud of every young member of our network, each of them driven by unwavering energy and commitment! New members continue to join our ranks, enriching our growing network.
