Some facts about the country
With a population of approximately 17 million, 55% of Zambians currently live in rural areas, and agriculture is an important part of the country's formal and informal economy. Moreover, 23% of children of elementary school age in rural areas are not enrolled in school, compared to 9% in urban centers, and in some rural schools, there are between 70 and 110 students per class. This is why our partner places particular importance on supporting communities in the generation and application of knowledge in the field of sustainable agriculture and on scaling up community schools to provide quality education to children in rural and peri-urban areas.
Our partner
Recognized by the Zambian authorities in 2007, Inshindo Foundation aims to develop the capacities of youth to take charge of their own development and contribute to that of their community, through the implementation of the PSA program. In order to respond to the reality of youth living in rural areas, special attention has been given to the agricultural and environmental component of the program, thus enabling youth to remain in their communities and launch income-generating initiatives.
Over the years, Inshindo Foundation has established strong relationships with government authorities and other organizations. It is part of the Mwinilunga District Development Coordinating Committee, which coordinates various development activities at the district level. Government officials frequently attend spaces organized by Inshindo Foundation where they learn about the program’s activities, and the foundation is also invited to meetings organized by the government.
Since 2022, Unity Foundation also funds Inshindo Foundation’s Community Schools program, which aims to provide quality education to children in rural and peri-urban areas close to home.
