Since the beginning of this year, a total of 24 workshops with 412 young people and 11 preparatory meetings with teachers, educators and counsellors have been held. We are delighted to see that interest in our awareness campaign is growing day by day and we take this opportunity to share with you the highlights of the first half of 2019.
After watching the short film “Mercy’s Blessing”, many young people say that the film made them “think about how our choices influence our lives” and express the desire to “do everything possible to help the people around them”. In one of our workshops, one of the students noted that “we make choices every day, and when we make them, we have to ask ourselves if they bring us closer to the person we want to be and if they help other people?”.
Young people share a wide variety of ideas to contribute to a better environment, such as making friends with young people who feel lonely, becoming class representatives and committing themselves to the rights of other students, showing affection and gratitude to their parents,….. Everyone agrees that “deep down, each person needs a friend” and that by helping others “we set an example and perhaps encourage other young people to do the same. “
Workshop during the solidarity day at Lycée Hubert Clément.
This year, we learned to involve teachers and educators more in the organization of the workshops. We systematically prepared the workshops with them, taking into account the reality of each class and exploring how some of the film’s concepts can help young people to become protagonists of social change.
Feedback from the teachers at “Lycée Edward Steichen” where we held a total of 12 workshops.
We would like to thank the teachers of the Lycée Edward Steichen in Clervaux, the European School in Kirchberg, the Lycée Nic Biever in Dudelange, the Lycée Hubert Clément in Esch-sur-Alzette as well as the advisors of the Centre d’Orientation Socio-Professionnelle for their support and commitment to our campaign.
In some workshops, students have expressed through drawing the importance they attach to friendship.
